Beach Body…Let’s Get Real!
It is summertime and time for the beach, pool, or lake depending on where you live. If you are going to don that new swimwear you may want to consider some things first. I recently watched the movie “Why Did I Get Married Too” which was shot partly on location on a tropical island. Most of us wish we had bodies like that of actors Tasha Smith and Michael Jai White, but Let’s Get Real!
The reality is that we are not all going to look like Tasha and Michael. We must take in consideration age, general health, fitness level, your diet, and body type. There are many body types and one of them is yours. It is important for you to understand and know your body type. If you know your body type then you will know what a healthy look is for you.
True health is from the inside out and not the outside in. I guess you maybe thinking that I am going to talk about food, right? Wrong!
I am going to start with changing the way you think about good health. Please read the scripture below;
Romans 12
1. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
We must renew our thinking where it comes to our bodies and what is healthy for you. When you have the knowledge of what is healthy for you, and then you should have no shame on putting that swimwear you bought at Target!
There three basic body types: endomorphs, mesomorphs and ectomorphs. Endomorphs are the "fat retainers." Characterized by roundness, excess body fat and large joints ("big bones"), endomorphs often have great difficulty in losing body fat. Mesomorphs are the "genetically gifted." They are lean, muscular and naturally athletic. Mesomorphs lose fat and gain muscle with ease. Ectomorphs are the lean, skinny types. They are usually very thin and bony, with fast metabolisms and extremely low body fat.
Although there are three basic categories, pure body types are very rare. Few people are 100% of one body type and 0% of another. Usually there is a mix of two or even all three types. However, most people will tend to gravitate towards one type predominantly.
Having the knowledge of your body type will help you with your fitness goals. In my next blog I will share with you some details about each of the three basic body types. This will help you choose the exercise right for you and foods specific for your body type.
Please understand that you may never look like Tasha or Michael, but you are no longer 25 years old either. Let’s get real with our fitness goals and take a dose of the reality pill. I want you to be successful in reaching your goal of good health and looking in your swimwear.
Note: Always consult a physician before embarking in any fitness program.
I hope to see you soon.
