To Build or Not to Build?

New York City officials have approved the plans to building a mosque in lower Manhattan. Now, I have visited Manhattan and if there is any city that needs another place to worship, especially Christian, it would be that city. Please don’t be offended my New York family. However, an Islamic worship center blocks away from ground zero, where 19 followers of Islam attacked and murdered 3000 innocent civilians, would make most religions reconsider this action, but not these followers. Why?

Why would followers of Islam want to build a mosque near ground zero? I believe in the freedom of religion, but when your religion infringes on the freedom of others, and then they become the conquered. Should not the victims, survivors and their families have the freedom from Islam? I understand that the terrorist do not represent all of Islam, but they share the belief in the same god, but maybe different doctrines.

I really don’t think that the founders of this country had Islam in their mind when they placed the freedom of religion in the U.S. Constitution. Religious freedom was so important for them that they it had to go in the First Amendment. Thomas Jefferson said (1807) "among the inestimable of our blessings, also, is that ...of liberty to worship our Creator in the way we think most agreeable to His will”. It would be reasonable to say that he was not referring to Allah when he used Creator and definitely not to do Allah’s will.

The Constitution is a flawed document and it is being exploited now as it has in the past.

Now, let’s turn this around, what if Christians decided to build a huge church in near the sites of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan in 1945 right after the bomb. What if the Japanese decided to build Shinto and Buddhism temples near Pearl Harbor? It is understood that the Saudis maybe financing much of the construction of the project. Fifteen of the nineteen hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, two from the United Arab Emirates, one from Egypt (Atta), and one from Lebanon. How many Christian churches are in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, and Lebanon? How many mosques are here in the United States? Who is more tolerant now?

We still have men and women fighting a war in Islamic countries that supported the attacks on 9/11. If they wanted to build a mosque in New York City, can’t they wait until our troops are home and the war over? We still have Americans dying and coming home crippled since the attacks, just to come home to see a mosque being built near ground zero. Keep in mind that only a few months ago that a follower of Islam tried to detonate a bomb in New York. When I think about that mosque, Trojan horse comes to mind. Where is the respect and sensitivity to the 3000?

In conclusion, the tolerance that we are expected to have in this country is being used as our weakness by others. Maybe we should we have the same tolerance level for Islam that the Saudis have for Christianity in their country. How tolerant would God be with Islam?

Should the mosque be build at the proposed location?

I can agree on one of your conclusion, the constitution is flawed but not it princible of reglious freedom. Thomas Jefferson was an agnogstic a best and deitest most likely. The nations you use as an example have never as part of their national idenity considered themselves founded on our "Bill Of Rights". We must not forget Abraham had a first son. Even if by our standards he was a bastard child we not for get who his father was. Many of the Klu Klux Klan were southern christian who believe they knew God's will. As far as I can tell the last person we believed spoke to Jesus was Paul.

The real and only issue here is do private property owners have the right to do with there property any legal thing they want. The issue of if God would tolerate Islam is a question that only God can answer. All the God's religions tell us we as mere humans can not comprehend the mind of God. We as american's have a long bloody history of intolerance and prejudice. May he without sin cast the first stone.

Hi R.J. Harrell,

Thank you for your comments. I would like to respond to them. I hope I did not give the wrong impression that Thomas Jefferson was a Christian, but I what I was trying to say is that I don?t think the founders had Islam in mind when they referred to God. The reason that I was referring to those nations was because they were the countries of the 19. However, you are correct in that those nations are not in our Bill of Rights, but I never said they were. Yes, I am very much aware of Abraham?s first son, Ishmael, who is not the son of the promise. God still blessed him, but it the promise was through Isaac. If you were referring to Ishmael because of Islam, which started around 620ad, it would be hard to connect them. You are absolutely right that many of the KKK were southern Christians, but think about when it was formed and why. The civil war created a lot of resentment of the north. I far as I know, Jesus is still talking through the Word of God.

I think the real issue is that to know who the enemy is. And that this war is not over and until we understand the extent that this enemy will go we will not win. Also, God has answered the question of whether He would tolerate Islam or any other religion, please read Exodus 20 and 1 Timothy 4. If I may point out, God does not have any religion. It is Christ and Christ alone and we are added to the Body of Christ and not a religion. Can Christ be divided? Religions are saying that there is a division in thoughts and practice. When we put on Christ in the act of baptism, you become the dwelling place for the Holy Spirit, who will guide you into all truth.

In conclusion, I was speaking as a Christian, first and then an American second. I think I covered it on those aspects. On the sin comment that is personal and I did not point out anyone?s sin. If you are going to talk about blood history, refer you to the history in the bible and you see a lot blood. Finally, the scriptures have the answers to everything.
