Mr. Aaron Rosendary
Is Your Body Type Big-Boned?
I have been told for many years by many friends describing themselves as “Big Boned”. I would say that most of them hadn’t seen the inside of a gym since high school. Now, when I first heard this term use, I was totally ignorant of the medical terms for body types. My last blog was an introduction to the three body types; Endomorphs, Mesomorphs, and Ectomorphs. This installment is for the Endomorphs.
Endomorphs are people who retain fat than most. This can be seen by roundness, excess body fat and large joints, endomorphs often have great difficulty in losing body fat. These body types are people who work hard but still struggle to lose body fat are endomorphs. An endomorph is someone with a slow metabolism who is genetically prone to store fat easily. I hope that I won’t offend anyone by referring to you as “big boned”, instead of endomorph. We don’t have to be too technical, okay?
Big boned people can be degrees of carbohydrate sensitivity and insulin resistance, so high carbohydrate diets would not be effective for you to control body fat. Consuming processed and refined carbohydrates that contain white sugar and white flour are especially detrimental and tend to convert to body fat more rapidly for big boned people. Moving to a low to moderate carbohydrate diet with higher protein usually work best for you.
While other body types can eat whatever they want and never gain any fat, the endomorph must eat clean and healthy almost all the time. This requires a great deal of discipline in your consumption of food. You must learn to live to eat instead of loving to eat. Eat for pleasure only can derail your goal. Your body type tends to gain body fat quickly if you eat too much or if you eat the wrong types of foods.
Big boned people cannot cheat a lot and get away with it. Your metabolism is extremely unforgiving. It may seem like if you even look at the wrong type of food you gain fat. One or two cheat meals per week seem to be the limit. I would suggest not cheating for the whole day, keep it to a meal. Poor daily nutrition habits or frequent cheat days always set them back. Big boned people generally have a very difficult time losing fat with diet alone. Even a nearly perfect diet sometimes won’t work by itself because you need the boost in metabolism that exercise provides. I will write about exercises for your type, soon.
Does this body type apply to you?
