Does Skin Color Matter?
Recently I have watched the Tiger and Elin Woods saga and I am grieved for what she is going through. Having five sisters myself I would not want any of them to be in her shoes. What I found interesting was that his choice of women, all white. Mr. Woods have never publicly embraced this part of his heritage. Black folks love to recognize those who remotely look like them like we do with Kim Kardashian and Angelina Jolie.
The reason I was motivated to write this letter was Tiger’s choice of women. There are many interracial couples in this country that live happy lives. I have visited many countries in my travels where it does not matter what color you are in, but in the U.S. it matters. My brother with a group of co-workers travelled to a small town in Louisiana on assignment. Two of his co-workers, a black man and a white woman, decided to eat lunch at a local restaurant. When they entered the establishment the patrons there began to stare. After they were seated and placed their order every patron began to leave without even finishing their meals. By the time the two were half way through their meal they were the only ones in the restaurant, except for the employees. This was just a reminder of where we are and race does still matter in this country.
I don’t know if Mr. Woods’ choice of women was based upon a natural attraction or a dislike of his own color, honestly I don’t care. Who you choose to be with is your choice and I am not trying to be a Tiger hater. In fact, I hope that he repents of his transgressions and renew his marriage to his wife and kids.
Those of us, who believe in God, believe that He created man and woman. If you who follow the bible there is no where does God prohibit interracial marriages. In fact when Moses married the Ethiopian woman, God rejected Aaron and Miriam. God does not care about the race of the man and women just that they believe in the same God.
We shouldn’t care about the skin color or race of the person, but recognize the natural God given attraction you have for the opposite sex. Let the potential of love be the rule of the day for your choice and not a person’s race. Color should never matter to a Christian, but what is in their heart is what really counts.
I would love to hear your comments.
